Ms. Worley Language
Arts: During the seventh grade year, formal expository writing is developed. Many county essay contests are entered because most are related to seventh grade level topics. These contests give us the opportunity to win money awards and receive countywide recognition. Some of our works are published in national anthologies.
The Holocaust is explored in depth with the reading of The
Diary of Anne Frank.
Readiness for the eighth grade Tennessee Writing Assessment test is a
top priority in seventh grade. The
language mechanics and parts of speech learned in this grade are
incorporated daily in our written and oral work, so that we become totally
aware of correct writing techniques. Many
skills in geography relate to everday life and surviving in the world
today. In the seventh grade, we learn to read many different types
of maps and interpret these maps for various uses.

Mrs.
Smith Math:
Seventh graders begin to solve equations, which is a building block
of algebra. Steps in problem
solving are learned in depth, and a lot of work is done using ratios and
proportions with scale drawings and unit rates.
Geometry, which has been introduced in previous grades, is further
developed with tessellations, translations, and Sierpinski’s triangle.
Students also learn how to use a protractor and compass correctly. Students use graph paper while learning the coordinate system
which is helpful in reading maps and other social studies skills.
Seventh graders also learn and practice addition, subtraction,
multiplication, and division of fractions, decimals and integers. Units
of Study:
Students will be involved in many science labs. They will also learn the parts of a microscope and how to use one correctly.
