Our philosophy in the eight grade is: Every student deserves to have his/her needs met in an instructional program |
|||||
| The eighth grade will bring lots of new experiences for the students as they prepare for high school. The students must always be prepared for class with their notebooks, pencil, paper, and books. We also expect students to follow rules so that all students have an opportunity to learn in the classroom. | ||||||

Mrs. Breland Math Chapter 1 - Problem solving and algebra...we will learn how equations are used in real life. Chapter 2 - Algebra: Using Integers...we use integers in sporting events scores, temperature, time and money. Chapter 3 - Using proportions and percents...we use these every day to determine grades. Chapter 4 - Statistics: Analyzing data...we are bombarded daily with statistics on television news and in newspapers. Chapter 5 - Geometry: Investigating patterns...we use this to make proportional drawings, design room layouts, and construct buildings. Chapter 6 - Exploring number patterns...this helps us solve problems when we only have partial information. Chapter 7 - Algebra: Using rational numbers...carpenters, architects, chefs, and scientists all use rational numbers. Chapter 8 - Applying proportional reasoning...we use this when interpreting maps, understanding grading systems, and making scale drawings and models. Chapter 9 - Algebra: Exploring real numbers...not all numbers are as "nice and neat" as fractions, decimals, and integers. We will learn how to apply Pythagorean's Theorem. Chapter 10 - Algebra: Graphing functions...these concepts can help solve problems in physical science class. Chapter 11 - Geometry: Using area and volume...industry uses these concepts to determine the amount of material needed to construct an object or the amount of liquid needed to fill a container. Chapter 12 - Investigating discrete math and probability...probability helps us decide how to dress each morning and whether or not we should carry an umbrella. Chapter 13 - Algebra: Exploring polynomials...this will help us solve problems involving rates and finance. |
